| Bring a £1 to work day | Just ask colleagues to bring a £1 to work in aid of brainstrust – and then donate the collection to us. |
| ebay | Sell unwanted items on ebay – and donate a percentage to brainstrust. You can choose how much you want to donate. |
| A night in . . . | Instead of going out for the evening, stay in – and donate what you have saved to brainstrust. |
| Sweepstake | Organise a sweepstake on the next big sporting event. |
| Car boots | Good fun – particularly if you do it with friends and there is also a chuck wagon on site. |
| Fancy dress at work | Choose a time of year (Easter bonnets, Halloween) or a theme (soaps, literary characters). Run a competition for the fanciest dress. |
| Raffle | Easy peasy – even raffling a bottle of wine brings in the readies. |
| Tea parties | How we love tea and cake. National Tea Party Week is usually in March. Get friends baking cakes, you provide the tea and invite your friends and colleagues along to buy tea and cake – and hey presto, a good time is had by all. |
| Book sales | Gather those second hand books and establish a space at work where you can sell them. Keep them replenished. People are grateful to off load their read once books and to refresh their own reading supplies. |
| Bring and not buy | An alternative to the bring and buy sale. This can be run concurrently with your tea party. It is an excellent way of collecting raffle prizes or things to sell at a future event. |
| Marathons/sponsored events | Whatever the distance or time – these are an excellent way of raising money through sponsorship. And it is made such much easier if you use Justgiving.com – with which brainstrust is registered. |
| Buffet supper | Everyone cooks a course – but you charge for tickets. |
| Birthdays | You know you don’t need any more ‘stuff’ – ask people to donate to brainstrust rather than buy you yet more ‘stuff’. And feel good instead. |
| Vanishing lunches and coffee | Invite six people to lunch or coffee. Ask them to donate a minimum sum to cover the costs. Then they must each invite five people to a lunch they organise – again for a minimum donation. Then the five invite four, the four invite three and so on. If the chain is completed at £3 per head, then it will raise a massive £5,868; at £1 for coffee - £1, 956! Thanks to brain tumour UK for this idea. |
| Non uniform days | A plea to all the teachers out there. Such an easy way to raise money. |
| Nominate brainstrust | And now a plea to all employees – ask your employer to nominate brainstrust as your charity of the year |
| Table top sale | Book the local village hall for a table top sale (good if you don’t fancy a winter car boot). Charge for each table, ask for a donation as well and combine it with a raffle – a recipe for success. |
| Garden open days | Either show off your garden or persuade a local house to open its garden. Add a tea party – and donate proceeds to brainstrust. |
| Golf tournaments | Take over your local course and charge a competition entry. |
| Ladies’ Night | Book beauty therapists and arts and crafts sellers, so that you have a variety of attractions. |
| Pub quiz | An easy formula – pubs are often only too keen to help, particularly if you want to hold the quiz on a quiet night. |
| Unwanted presents | Great after Christmas. Hold a table top sale with donated unwanted presents. |
| Christmas cards | Buy some of our cards to send to your friends and family. Or better still. Take ten packs and sell them on. |
| Donate | Just donating £10 per month provides us with much needed income. And donating is made easy through our Donate page. |
