Jeremy's 100km Isle of Wight Randonnee
3 May 2009

jeremy-bikerideJeremy Snook, brand new trustee of brainstrust, is oiling his wheels ready for the Isle of Wight Randonnee. This event is organised by the Wayfarers Cycle Touring Club and this year the cyclists taking part will follow the 100km route anticlockwise around the island. Jeremy said:

I know – I had said no more charity rides! However, with my nominated charity, brainstrust, based on the Isle of Wight, what better way to support it than via the 100km IoW Randonnee!

The event was established in 1985 and uniquely follows a route around the whole of the Isle of Wight.  It covers minor roads and lanes, over undulating coastline, making for relatively slow progress.

For the 25th anniversary edition, being held on Sunday May 3, the 100km route will be run anti-clockwise.  There are various official checkpoints and I will be starting and finishing in Yarmouth.

Longstock Park Water Garden Charity Open Day
19 April 2009

longstockparkgardensThe world famous water garden near Stockbridge, founded by John Spedan Lewis, is holding a special charity open day for brainstrust on 19 April.

The first days of spring will be a magical occasion to visit the garden and step into one man's vision of paradise. As the uncertainties of March give way to the milder temperatures of April, every bank and island will suddenly come alive with new growth.

The seven-acre garden includes around two and a half acres of lake, which is fed by the river Test so that the water remains very clear. It has earned a universal reputation amongst horticulturists - the International Water Lily Society has voted it "the finest water garden in the world."

So come and support brainstrust and visit one of the most beautiful gardens in the world.
